Sculptor of Rock and Water
Inspired as a schoolchild watching water well up from the ground in the woods, and influenced by Roberto Burle Marx of Brazil, who used architectural materials, curving water shapes and mass plantings on a large scale to “paint the landscape,” Anthony began designing water gardens in the 1960s.
Humphrey Bowden
Humphrey Bowden is a designer and maker of unusual sculptural fountains, mainly based on slender plant and tree shapes.
Fountain Designer and Maker
His work has been extensively covered in national and international media. All designs are original and each fountain is made individually for the client, so as to interpret his or her ideas. Fountains or other sculpture can be commissioned for any location, from a pond in a private garden to a corporate atrium or large public space. A number of fountains are exhibited annually at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. The fountains are hand beaten from pure copper and silver brazed together, to be permanently resistant to the elements. The warm gold and reddish colours formed naturally when the copper is heated gradually weather to take on the characteristic grey-green patina.

Conserving & protecting fountains worldwide
The Society has actively pursued the conservation and creation of fountains, cascades and water features in the UK. With the advantage of modern technology we are able to create computer-controlled displays of water and lighting to make the mark of our own age. We have consultative status for planning applications for fountain and water feature projects. We have also administered the Marsh Trust Awards for the best new fountains, restorations and the most innovative use of water.
